Active Travel England Consultation: Proposed walking and cycling improvements Church Lane, Gorleston

Norfolk County Council are asking for feedback on proposals to improve Church Lane and the northern end of Middleton Road so that more people choose to walk, wheel or cycle.

The proposed route would provide safer cycling facilities between Middleton Road and East Norfolk Sixth Form College as well as introducing improved safe crossings for those on foot.

This project was identified as a priority scheme in the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Gorleston and is supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council. A budget of £735,000 has been allocated for the works which would be funded by the Governments Active Travel Fund. This money cannot be used to fund other council services or initiatives and must be spent on schemes that promote walking, wheeling or cycling.

The documents below detail exactly what we’re proposing and why and the accompanying plans show what the project could look like on the ground.

After reviewing the proposals below please answer the questions in the online survey on the following page.

What happens next

The deadline for comments is Monday 26th May. We will then carefully consider all responses and report back to you with the results and next steps. All decisions rest with the cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport.

The project webpage www.norfolk.gov.uk/churchlane will be kept up to date with the latest progress and information.
