Agreements and background information

Before we ask you more specifically about your trees, answering the agreements and questions below helps us handle your information correctly.

1. Data protection:

Norfolk County Council (NCC) will retain your contact details for any enquiries relating to the information you supply in this form. For example this may be to clarify any information submitted or to request more detailed planting information for larger schemes. We'll also send you a thank you email.

The NCC Arboriculture and Woodland privacy notice (link opens in new window) includes further details of how we use and keep your information.

2. Add the trees towards the 1 Million target and share their location:

NCC would like to publicly share the planting details of the trees, including display on an online map.

3. Are the trees already counting towards another target? If yes, please give detail
(Required)
4. Permission to plant:

New trees can be really valuable in the right place but must have the landowner’s permission to be planted.

5. Trees must be ‘new’ and not planted to replace lost ones:

Trees can count towards the 1 Million total if they haven’t been introduced to replace lost ones E.g. Lost trees may include those cut down for development to take place or that died due to disease.

6. Right Tree, Right Place pledge:

Planting the right trees in the right places helps to avoid damaging more important existing habitats and also helps avoid future problems as the trees get bigger, such as blocking paths or affecting neighbours. It’s also vital that they are then looked after properly, especially in the first few years of establishment when they’re more prone to damage by drought, competition from weeds and nibbling by animals.

Our website includes more information on 'right tree right place' (opens in new window).

We really appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your trees but please note we may subsequently remove numbers from the 1 Million Trees for Norfolk total if they do not meet the criteria above.

7. The trees were planted (or natural colonisation encouraged) after November 2019
