School Term Dates for the School Years 2017/18 and 2018/19
Results updated 7 Apr 2016
Thank you to everyone who responded to our consultation on a proposed Norfolk Model calendar of term dates for 2017-18 and 2018-19. The results demonstrated that:
Of the 22 responses received, 18 agreed there should be a standard pattern of dates across Norfolk, however 4 disagreed with such a pattern.
The Norfolk Model calendars will be available for download shortly. They identify the 190 pupil days when school transport will be provided. Five staff professional development days are included, but can be disaggregated to after school sessions. Please check with your child's school before making holiday or other commitments.
Overview
Norfolk County Council remains responsible for setting term and holiday dates for Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools, while Governing Bodies of Foundation, Voluntary Aided School and Academies are resonsible for setting their own term dates. In practice most of the schools in Norfolk adopt a single calendar.
The Regional Term Dates Group, which met earlier this term, continues to share the view that a coordinated approach to minimise impact on families and transport is preferable, wishing to continue, wherever possible, by aligning term dates with their neighbouring regions. The proposed models from the group are attached.
Our neighbouring authorities Suffolk, Cambridge and Lincolnshire have confirmed they want to align their calendars with their neighbours and are now consulting on the Eastern Region Model with their schools.
The calendars each provide 190 teaching days (white) when schools must be open to pupils and on which home to school transport will be provided.
