Overview

Norfolk County Council is putting forward proposals for changes to Thorpe Road in Norwich.

We are proposing to create a bus and cycle contraflow lane along Thorpe Road between its junction with Clarence Road and Carrow Road.

We are proposing to remove the existing traffic signals and island at the Thorpe/Carrow Road junction and replace them with a zebra crossing, east of the junction. To make these changes, we will need to add double yellow lines to Thorpe Road and Carrow Road. We will also need to change the existing traffic signals at Clarence/Thorpe Road to accommodate the proposed bus lane.

Please find more detailed plans at the bottom of this webpage.

If successfully funded, this scheme will be delivered by Transport for Norwich using money from the Department for Transport's Transforming Cities fund.

Further information

These proposed changes are part of the Norwich Area Transportation Strategy (NATS), known as Transport for Norwich. The principles of the project were agreed following consultation as part of the NATS Implementation Plan, which was adopted in 2010 and updated in 2013. The deadline for comments is Friday 27 March 2020.
