Overview

The governing body at The King George VI School, Great Bircham has raised concerns about the future sustainability and financial viability of the school.

The school has 7 places available in each year group, but is regularly undersubscribed.  In September 2013, there were 14 pupils on roll, of whom only 6 live within the designated catchment area of the school.  A further 30 children eligible to attend the school are choosing to go to schools elsewhere.

The governing body, together with the Diocese of Norwich and Norfolk County Council, is proposing is to close The King George VI School, Great Bircham from 31 December 2014.

The Statutory consultation period closed on 28 November 2014.  Below is the Determination Notice, signed by the Director of Children’s Services, approving the proposal to cease to maintain (close) the school from 31 December 2014.
